Brave volunteers are honing their comedy stand-up skills as The Laughter Factor edges closer.

Set to bring fun, entertainment, and giggles galore, The Laughter Factor is arriving in Leeds on 9th January.

Taking place at The Engine Shed, York Road, with doors opening at 7.30pm for an 8pm start, audience members can watch the sterling stand-up efforts from the brave volunteers – including JLife’s very own Elliot Landy – who will each get a slot on stage.

Having undergone vigorous training from comedy professional, Ashley Borado, the participants will be hoping to impress the panel of Howard Lee, Nick Hannock (Stray FM), and former stand-up comedian, Deirdre Bounds. Steve Best from BBC One’s The Stand-Up Show will also be acting as compere on the night.

Tickets cost £30 – including 4LaughAl Feast – and can be purchased by calling 07703 271 238.

JLife meets a few of the plucky contestants gearing up for the big event.

Jonathan Adler

“Strictly Laughter is a great opportunity to raise the profile of my chosen charity which is Yorkshire Jewish Chaplaincy; a charity that supports a full-time chaplain who is tasked with looking after our student guests while at university, which will hopefully lead to them staying in Yorkshire after they graduate.”

Stephen Mitchell

“In my youth my friends called me a “bundle of fun” because I was always making people laugh. Now my family call me a “miserable old git”! This is my chance to show my lighter side while raising funds for charity.”

Richard Abrahams

“I’m looking forward to seeing if my material works. To me, it’s all about the opening line, how the audience will react, and whether I get some laugh – a little whisky before I go on stage won’t go amiss!”

Howard Klineberg

“Why did I let myself be talked into doing this?”

Melvyn Cohen

“I couldn’t get work on the arena circuit, or even the comedy clubs. The demise of the working men’s clubs didn’t help. The cancellation of my London Palladium show was the last straw. I really hope that this will get my career back on track, and hopefully a powerful theatrical agent may be in the audience!”

Also participating: Mason Glass, Elliot Landy, Robert Sanders, and Wendy Tobias.
