Leeds Jewish Welfare Board (LJWB) has launched two new initiatives as part of its Connecting with our Community campaign to combat loneliness.

As part of last month’s Mitzvah Day, the organisation urged people to invite members of the community to their shabbat dinner who would otherwise spend it alone.

Its bid to bring people together continues at the MAZCC where it is taking part in the Chatty Café scheme which encourages people on their own to sit together and socialise. The MAZCC café now hosts a Chatter & Natter table where customers can sit if they are happy to talk to others.

Victoria Sandler, LJWB Marketing coordinator, said: “It’s about making friends and just having good old-fashioned human interaction! If you’re on your own, in a couple, with a friend, or if you’re a carer, why not sit down for five minutes while you have your drink?”

LJWB invites the community to its annual review on 9th December at 4pm to hear about plans for the future and take part in a Q&A session with trustees.

If you’d like to host a Shabbat dinner, call 0113 268 4211.
