New York Bakery Co.’s Global Energy Race 2018 was the most successful to date. The UK’s favourite bagel baker generated more funds than it has ever done before for The Trussell Trust, helping the charity’s mission to eradicate hunger and poverty in the UK.
£6,742 in registration fees from its’ Global Energy Race will be going directly to The Trussell Trust, as part of the brand’s on-going charity commitments.
This year, New York Bakery Co.’s Global Energy Race was positioned as the ‘Race Against Hunger’ and took place on Sunday 23rd September at Rother Valley Country Park, Sheffield.
The one-of-a-kind family running event was fuelled by community spirit, seeing local residents and those from further afield come together for this important and worth cause.
For every km run by every participant this year, New York Bakery Co. donated a bagel directly to The Trussell Trust. The donations totalled a whopping 8,397 bagels, going to support The Trussell Trust’s 400-strong network of foodbanks, providing emergency food and support to those in need. In addition to the bagel donations, New York Bakery Co. was also collecting food donations from runners at the event at a dedicated Trussell Trust tent, with over 300kg of food donated on the day, relative to 700 meals.
Tim Barkey, Marketing Director at New York Bakery Co., said: “We’re proud to have welcomed all abilities to the Global Energy Race this year and to be supporting the very worthy cause that is The Trussell Trust. We know the money donated, bagels and food deliveries will go a long way and will get us that step closer to helping eradicate UK hunger.”
The race is part a global initiative that saw 34 cities in 23 countries across the world take part. The fastest male and female finishers in the 10k race also won a trip for two to Madrid to compete in the 2019 Global Energy Race.
The Trussell Trust’s 400-strong network of food banks provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK. In 2017/18, 1.3M three-day emergency food supplies were distributed to those in need.
