Hollywood screenwriter David N. Weiss visited Chabad in the City to talk about his colourful career.

At the latest Chabad in the City event, the organisation held a business lunch with special guest, David N. Weiss, who has led a prominent career as a screenwriter of much loved films.

The lunch was organised by Chabad in the City, a group dedicated to the spiritual and social needs of Manchester’s Jewish business and young professional community, and held at the offices of Grant Thornton UK in Spinningfields.

The talk, entitled ‘The Spiritual Wild Ride of a Hollywood Screenwriter’ began with a hearty lunch before David addressed more than 70 attendees. After casual networking, noshing, and socialising, participants were enthralled by Weiss’s talk, in which he told of his journey from a Jewish childhood to conversion to Christianity and then his ultimate return to Judaism. David then embarked on a successful screenwriting career penning family films such as Shrek, The Smurfs, The Rugrats Movie and Enchanted. After the conclusion of his talk, Weiss lingered to take questions on a variety of subjects, including his professional career.

“Loved this talk today,” said attendee, Andrew Addleman. “He gave me a lot of inspiration: one step at a time. Plus he was hilarious.”

The event sponsors were Carl Williams and Mark Jacobson of Grant Thornton and Nick Freeman of Freeman & Co.
