As the Babylonian Talmud commands: “It is one’s duty to make oneself fragrant [with wine] on Purim until one cannot tell the difference between ‘arur Haman’ [cursed be Haman] and ‘barukh Mordekhai’ [blessed be Mordecai].” To help ease you into the celebratory mood, look no further than our selection of spirits distilled right here in Yorkshire.
Spirit of Yorkshire: Filey Bay Flagship
Yorkshire’s first ever whisky distillery, Spirit of Yorkshire’s flagship single malt is made with homegrown barley and is the culmination of its bourbon-matured style. Leeds Gin: Original Dry
The concept is simple; Leeds Gin is no-nonsense, straight-talking gin. Since its acquisition by True North brewery, the brand has been shaken up, from ingredients to design. Its Original Leeds Gin is created with traditional botanicals steeped with Yorkshire rhubarb, ginger and agave for a true northern spirit that will get you stamping your feet long before Haman’s name comes up.
The Harrogate distiller famous for its gin has made its first foray into vodka, crafted using the finest English wheat, seven times distilled and blended with spring water from the world-famous Harrogate aquifer. A bold characterful spirit with a soft and elegantly smooth finish makes it versatile enough to savour neat or mix into your favourite cocktail to get you in the festival spirit.
Libations Spiced Rum
Kicking off with a sell-out launch in Victoria Gate just over a year ago, Libations founder Rory Armstrong turned his hand from working with a notable Yorkshire gin distillery to creating his own small batch artisan rum here in Leeds. Hardy Yorkshire heather, Madagascan vanilla, cinnamon, clove and orange peel combine with honey from North Yorkshire hives to create an oak-aged rum sure to get your tastebuds fired up for an evening of festivities.
