Manchester Grammar School Jewish pupils are celebrating an outstanding set of examination results.
Pupils arrived at School today, 18th August, to pick up their results. 43% of all grades were at the coveted A* level. 74% of all grades were A* or A, and 90% of grades were A*, A or B.
There were many exceptional individual performances. 38 pupils were awarded A* grades in all their subjects, 20 of these pupils achieved four A* grades, a tremendous achievement. 96 pupils achieved a clean sweep of A* and A grades.
Along with A-level and International A-level results, MGS pupils received Cambridge Pre-University examination results in a number of subjects. The Pre-U is a challenging alternative to A-level, with its own grading system. The highest Pre-U grade, a Distinction One (D1), is a grade above A*, whilst a D2 is equivalent to an A*.
50% of all Pre-U grades awarded to MGS pupils were D1 or D2, an outstanding performance. Five pupils were awarded two D1 grades, a truly remarkable achievement.
One of the many Jewish pupils in the Sixth Form has had great success over the last couple of years, and has ambitions plans for the future. Nick Sciama, from Manchester, has achieved 2 As in Politics and Russian and D3 in History, and will be moving to Israel next year to study Computer Science. He also plans to continue studying Russian and Economics, with the view to become a Software Manager in his future career. Nick has been a tremendous asset to the school, having raised the most amount of money during the recent Bursary Telethon, and has also founded a Russian Society.
Oxford and Cambridge offered places to 21 Manchester Grammar School pupils in 2022. Other leading universities to which MGS pupils will be heading this autumn include Imperial, UCL, LSE, Durham, Warwick, York, KCL, Manchester, Nottingham and Leeds.
The High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, said, “This year’s results are exceptional and I am absolutely delighted that the talent, hard work and dedication of our boys has been rewarded.
For 43% of all A-level grades to be A*s, and 90% of all grades at A*-B level, is fantastic, and once again places The Manchester Grammar School in a very select number of schools nationally.
This cohort of pupils have had to navigate all the difficulties of remote education through the Covid pandemic, something they have done incredibly well. They should all be very proud of everything they have achieved. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our talented and dedicated staff for all that they have done in continuing to deliver a rich and varied education despite the disruption.
It is wonderful to see our pupils rewarded with excellent grades and moving on to study a diverse range of courses at leading universities. In congratulating them, I would also like to wish them every success as they take the next exciting steps of their academic journeys.”
