Heidi Farrar, founder of Chapel A gallery and arts hub CreARTives, is offering one lucky reader the chance to have their furry best friend committed to canvas. JLife discovers how a love of the natural world inspires her art which directly benefits conversation charities.
Tell us a little bit about your artistic background?
I am a self-taught artist living in North Leeds, having learned my craft when the internet was still very much in its infancy, so I didn’t have the luxury of online tutorials – just pure experimentation, practice and hard work.
Animals have always been a passion of mine. I grew up with cats, dogs, horses and parrots, so it seemed to be a natural progression to mix this with my passion for painting. When I sell a piece, I donate a percentage to animal conservation charities, so I feel I’m doing what I can to help wildlife in crisis.
I have been lucky enough to exhibit my work all over the country. I have won Best in Show with my painting Parsnip- Mummy Bear at Smith Art Gallery in Calderdale, out of over 100 paintings on display, of which I am very proud. I have exhibited with the Association of Animal Artists in Frodsham, the Exhibition of Wildlife Artists in Gordale, as well as locally with Roundhay Artists and Seven Arts in Chapel Allerton.
